Privacy and terms

The short version. Almost nothing you type here leaves your device. The nursery search, the admission index calculator and the benefits calculator all run entirely in your browser. The only thing ever sent to a server is your email address, if you choose to give it — along with your child's age class and the first three digits of your postcode, so we know which list to put you on.

What stays on your device

These are used to work out your results and are never transmitted anywhere:

Some of these are kept in your browser's local storage so the page remembers them next time. That storage is on your device only. Clearing your browser data removes it. We never see it.

Why the index answers never leave your browser

The admission index asks whether a parent holds a disability certificate or whether the household receives public assistance. Under Japan's Personal Information Protection Act (個人情報保護法) that is 要配慮個人情報 — special care-required personal information. The calculator is built so that this data is never sent to any server, which means it is never collected, stored or shared by anyone.

What is sent, and only if you ask

If you submit one of the email forms, this is transmitted:

ItemWhy
Email addressTo send you the updates you asked for.
Age classSo you only hear about your child's class.
Postcode — first three digits onlyTo know which ward and area you are in. Not enough to identify a household.
Which page you signed up fromTo know which list you joined.

Nothing else is sent. Your full postcode, your child's birthday and your index answers are not included.

Who else is involved

ServiceRole
beehiivRuns the mailing list and stores subscriber email addresses. Based in the United States.
VercelHosts the site and provides privacy-friendly, cookie-free traffic analytics. Based in the United States.

Both are outside Japan, so subscribing involves a transfer of your email address overseas. By subscribing you consent to that transfer.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising or cross-site tracking. Visitor numbers are measured with Vercel's cookie-free analytics, which records pages viewed and a small number of anonymous events such as "someone entered a postcode we don't cover yet". None of it identifies you.

Keeping, changing or deleting your data

To make any such request, reply to any email you have received from us.

Terms and disclaimer

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Edogawa City, Koto City, or the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Figures are transcribed from those authorities' own published sheets and reproduced as factual data, with the source credited and linked on every page. Each page states the date its figures were published.

Everything here is a guide, not a decision. Capacity, openings, admission scores and benefit amounts change, and the wards are the only authority on your case. Always confirm against the official pages before you apply. We accept no liability for decisions taken on the basis of this site, and give no warranty that the information is current or complete.

Admission index scores are an estimate based on each ward's published table. They are not a prediction and not a guarantee of a place.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change and, where it affects subscribers, we will say so by email.
